A Nose by Any Other Name

Standard

It’s so cool how history can repeat itself. Becca – the “new girl” in the class – said that her school friend had mentioned how “tall and pointy” her nose was, in comparison to her Asian classmates. This sent me right back to my Stella Maris days, almost thirty years ago, when I was the new girl, and nicknamed “Pinocchio” for my own ski slope, which stood out among my Indian and black classmates’ shorter and flatter noses. Who woulda smelled that coming?

Gotta love technology!

This week  Alaric’s been away, so it’s been just me and the kids. But it doesn’t even feel like that, thanks to all the communication gadgets we have come to appreciate. Alaric and I have been BBM’ing regularly. Mum and I talked on the phone using Blackberry’s new voice chat (well done, RIM!) Mel and I had our weekly chat on Skype. And, I got a surprise Skype video call from Sarah and Jen, who called from noisy Toby Jug! And of course, the iPad app “Learn Thai” came in handy several times this week! Becca learnt how to make a hexaflexagon from YouTube, which is harder than rock to make. When she got it, she was so excited and proud, her heart was pounding! Keeran is taking MineCraft by storm – I don’t even know how to start moving around in there. Honourable mention has to be made of the nifty GPS Alaric bought a couple weeks back, which does almost as much stuff as an iPhone. And, as I write this, Becca is FaceTiming with her cousins in Toronto. All in all, a terrific techie week. Ironically, no photos on this post. Go figure, eh?
